Central Valley Habitat Exchange launches online platform for effective conservation investments and outcomes through independent monitoring, reporting and verification.

Insomniac Design partnered with the Environmental Defense Fund to launch an online platform for the Central Valley Habitat Exchange, an innovative conservation program that takes advantage of emerging habitat markets and leverages the strong stewardship ethic of California farmers and ranchers. It does this by pairing investors seeking opportunities to fund conservation or mitigation projects with landowners who want to create or maintain habitat on their working lands. The exchange is a collaboration among American Rivers, Environmental Defense Fund, Trout Unlimited, Point Blue Conservation Science, Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta Conservancy, Department of Water Resources, California Trout, Environmental Incentives, California Department of Conservation, Riparian Habitat Joint Venture (RHJV), and Audubon California. The Exchange verifies every transaction to ensure optimum outcomes for investors, landowners, and wildlife. The Environmental Defense Fund saw an opportunity to connect unlikely allies - landowners, industry and conservationist for a new kind of conservation. EDF developed habitat exchanges, which offer incentives for private landowners, industry and conservationists to collaborate in a way that everyone wins, including wildlife.
